A little about Llangollen and its history
Nowadays the town of Llangollen relies heavily upon the tourist industry. There are numerous idyllic cafes and restaurants and a wide array of accommodation from 4-star hotels to cosy B&Bs. There is still much to be gained however from farming.
Most of the farms in Llangollen were sheep farms. For hundreds of years, the domestic wool industry for both spinning and weaving was of extreme importance.
Several factories were later built along the banks of the River Dee, where both wool and cotton were processed. The water mill opposite Llangollen railway station is over 600 years old and was originally used to grind flour for local farmers.
